On the day of Pentecost, the mystery of the Holy Trinity is revealed and worshiped. The mystical nature of the feast is considered self-evident. The mission of the Holy Spirit in the world marks the founding of the Church, of which Christ is the cornerstone and head, while the Holy Spirit remains as the One who makes Christ present in the lives of the faithful through the Holy Mysteries. The truth, the way, and the life, that is, Jesus Christ himself, invite us to a path of imitation. The choice is ours. However, as is clearly evident, on this journey we are not left alone. He sends the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, who is with us, within us, and, as one of the persons of the Holy Trinity, has the divine power to guide our steps into the uncreated light of God's Kingdom, should we choose freely and willingly to become citizens of it.
Immediately after the festive Divine Liturgy, the "Vespers of Kneeling" is performed, which concludes with the reading of the seven blessings. These blessings, divided into three groups—corresponding to the number of kneelings—address topics that strengthen and inspire Christians in their pursuit and experiential living of the personal God. Through the event of Pentecost, the faithful are initiated into the mystical life, which is the life of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit makes the Church exist. Pneumatology does not refer to the prosperity of the Church, but to its very existence.
The requests of Christians on Pentecost concern invoking the Holy Spirit, who grants everything to the faithful, as His charismatic gift facilitates the return to divine sonship and participation in the glorifying presence of the uncreated reality. This means that on Pentecost, with the sending of the Holy Spirit into the world, the spiritual vision of Christians is broadened, and the mind and heart are unified and illuminated, so that, with the help of divine grace, participants may be initiated into the mystery of the Holy Trinity.
