The book introduces readers to bilingualism and multilingualism as a normal part of educational structures. Until now, the everyday multilingual practices of children and adolescents related to migration have been seen as deviations from a monolingual norm. Although promoting multilingualism in schools and daycare centers is a clear goal of the EU's language policy, nationally organized educational systems have not yet adequately addressed this reality in recommendations for daycare centers or in school curricula.

This book aims to interpret individual and social bilingualism and multilingualism as challenges for educational structures. It informs educators and teachers about these requirements and provides fundamental knowledge and relevant research findings from linguistics, pedagogy, and teaching.
