“Academic English for Medicine” is addressed to medicine and science students at under- or post graduate level and aims to equip them with appropriate knowledge and effective skills so that they become critical readers of scientific papers and confident users of the academic English language.
By the end of this course, participants will have learnt and practised ways to help them gain an in-depth understanding of scientific and medical published work, critically appraise biomedical research papers, case reports and clinical reviews, develop their academic and scientific vocabulary, deal with unfamiliar vocabulary and difficult sentences in medicine and science texts, improve their writing skills for academic purposes, prepare and deliver oral presentations for academic and professional purposes.
The book consists of 11 units with a complete glossary and bibliography list. A Teacher’s Book is available as a separate publication. Each unit is organised in three lessons and includes reading comprehension and/or skills-based activities for both individual and group work, a summary of the taught skills, for quick reference and self-evaluation opportunities, further study sources, an end-of-unit review assignment, and a word list (with audio file).
