Born in 1932, the Spanish writer Fernando Arrabal was one of the most performed playwrights worldwide from the 1960s to the 1980s. However, the success of his dramatic works has led to his now extensive body of novels being largely overlooked and—except for his early narrative works—almost entirely unexplored to this day.
This book examines several of Arrabal's more recent novels for the first time. The study focuses on La torre herida por el rayo (1983), La piedra iluminada (1985), La virgen roja (1987), La hija de King Kong (1988), and La extravagante cruzada de un castrado enamorado (1990). Initially analyzed based on selected structuralist parameters, the novels are then primarily examined in terms of their content originality, also considering the relationships between Arrabal's theatrical works and his prose, as well as his development as an author.
