France's favorite country policeman investigates a suicide and becomes involved in a tricky local issue in the latest adventure in this ever-popular and bestselling mystery series.
“FRENCH TOURISM SHOULD RAISE A GLASS TO WALKER'S DORDOGNE MYSTERIES” - Daily Mail
Bruno Courrѐges is the chief of police of the charming town of St Denis in the Dordogne region, overseeing the beautiful Vézère River valley. One autumn morning, he encounters an abandoned car parked near a scenic spot. Inside is a dead woman, Monique, an apparent suicide caused by depression. However, circumstances surrounding her death raise Bruno's suspicions, especially when disputes emerge over her Will.
At the same time, Bruno makes the mistake of getting involved in a local marital dispute. Deputy mayor Xavier has been unfaithful and finds himself evicted from his home. Old controversies about deer culls resurface, and a second campaign begins, claiming that Bruno is less of a local policeman and more of a secret agent, whose main role is working for French intelligence.
Some of the accusations against him, Bruno learns, originate from Xavier, who sees this as a way to overthrow Bruno and the mayor and to take over the mayor's position himself. Suddenly, Bruno's reputation, once shiny, starts to tarnish as he fights to prove his innocence and uncover the truth behind Monique's suicide.
