Description

This book attempts to conceptualize the "ancient" questions of human death and mortality in relation to the current and vital subject of euthanasia. This topic compels reflection to genuinely consider the ideological, ethical, deontological, legal, and metaphysical frameworks that guide any approach to this issue from the outset.

This conception reveals that, on one hand, the concepts and ethics of death are originally determined by the ontology of death, and, on the other hand, that the question of euthanasia can only be authentically discussed within the horizon of this ontology. It is this ontology alone that can reveal to whom death belongs—our death—and also reveals our relationship to euthanasia as a determined human potentiality or final possibility.

Thus, euthanasia emerges in the analysis as the possibility of becoming a mortal on one hand, while on the other hand it appears in relation to the particularities of its existential structure, which essentially differ from the existential and ontological structure of any other possibility of dying. This is why it must not be confused with any of these other possibilities.
