Description

In ports, when the ship is docked, loading, unloading, and reception activities use an auxiliary engine. The impacts of pollution are respiratory, health-related, and environmental around ports. A study indicates that 60,000 cardiopulmonary deaths are due to atmospheric emissions from ships. Ship emissions account for 3% of global CO2 emissions, 15% of global NOx emissions, and 6% of global SOx emissions.

For this reason, the Port of Hamburg launched shore power facilities in July 2015 with the idea of a smart port and uses renewable energy such as wind turbines and solar panels in accordance with the IEC-ISO-IEEE 8005-1 standard. In this bachelor's thesis, the cost and conditions between shore power and the auxiliary engine will be analyzed and compared to find the most economical option between shore power facilities and the ship's auxiliary engine.

The shore power facilities in Hamburg are provided by SIEMENS with SIHARBOR and use a robotic arm from Stemman Technik as the cable management system. The objective of this thesis is to develop a calculation tool to compare costs and emissions.
