This study was conducted to evaluate physiological characteristics and identify promising wheat genotypes under high-temperature conditions during the terminal phase. Twenty genotypes were examined, specifically (WH 730, WH 1124, WH 1021, HD 3059, DBW 90, PBW 373, Raj 3765, HD 2851, HD 2285, PBW 550) and ten heat-sensitive genotypes (HD 2967, DPW 621, WH 1105, DBW 88, HD 3086, HD 2733, WH711, WH 1080, WH 1142 & K 0307), which were cultivated during the Rabi 2016-17 season in the cereal research area of the Plant Genetics and Breeding Department, CCS HAU, Hisar. The experimental setup was organized using a randomized block design (RBD) consisting of 4 rows, each 3 meters long with 20×5 cm spacing between rows and plants, respectively.
High terminal temperature significantly affects physiological, biochemical, yield, and yield-related traits in both sensitive and heat-tolerant types; however, the reduction was more pronounced in sensitive genotypes compared to tolerant ones. WH 1021 was identified as the most resistant genotype due to minimal reductions in photosynthesis rate, transpiration rate, chlorophyll content, maximum canopy temperature increase, and membrane stability.
