Globalization and sustainable development are the subjects of intense debates. In a unique approach in France, this work reviews the study of the relationships between globalization processes and the discourses and practices of sustainable development, with particular attention given to developing countries.
Do globalization and sustainable development require a renewed analysis, or even a questioning, of development theories? Are regulations for sustainable development in developing economies symptoms of a managed globalization serving a liberal economy, or do they give rise to the expression of "new" forms of development that fit within the gaps of globalization?
The authors of this book provide a nuanced and multidisciplinary overview of the study of complementarities and/or contradictions between globalization, development, and the environment, and critically analyze sustainable development strategies and practices as well as governance methods in developing economies in general and in Madagascar in particular.
