This study was conducted in the Hisar and Karnal areas, Haryana, India, aiming to raise farmers' awareness about greenhouse gas emissions for sustainable agriculture. A total of 125 farmers were selected and interviewed using a well-structured program.
The majority of farmers were middle-aged (36-50 years), with higher education, from nuclear families (5-6 members), exclusively engaged in farming, and owned an average of 5 acres of land.
The results show that farmers are fully aware of greenhouse gases, climate change, and global warming, based on their responses. The main causes of greenhouse gases include high use of inorganic fertilizers (2.88), intensive plowing practices (2.75), etc. The significant damages caused by greenhouse gases include a reduced benefit-to-crop ratio and crop damages due to climate uncertainty.
The results related to the adoption of alternative measures for greenhouse gas mitigation for sustainable agriculture were moderate. Agricultural practices such as developing new varieties, crop diversification, zero-till cultivation, and integrated farming practices were considered highly effective by farmers in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
