At the beginning of the game, each player has three cards and during their turn, a player draws one card and then plays one card. By playing cards, it is possible to introduce new rules that completely change the flow of the game: how many cards are drawn or played, how many cards can be held in a player's hand or in front of them, and (most importantly) how to win the game.

The Marvel Fluxx edition incorporates the gameplay of Fluxx along with characters and events from the Marvel Universe.
