Andreas Pittas. A doctor, pharmaceutical manufacturer, collector, a silent and modest poet. He has been writing for a long time, with many poems tucked away in his drawer. The Little Poems is his third collection.
Poetry that is rooted in antiquity, travel-inspired, a dialogue with myth and history, from Mesopotamia to the Aegean. A traveler accompanied by verse. Tenderly romantic and at the same time a romantic nature lover. He loves short poetic forms. There are few exceptions with longer poems.
He has spent years experimenting with haiku composition. A conscious effort to capture the moment, the fleeting inspiration. Often it is an expanded conscious extension of haiku, leading to his short poems.
In his ancient-mythical poetic compositions, he engages in a dialogue with the figures of his literary collection, with ancient lyric poets, with Sappho and also Homer, as in "The Shipwrecked":
Muse, oh tell us
how Odysseus felt
as he left
Calypso's embrace
and fell a naked castaway at the knees,
almost a supplicant
before the beautiful
Nausicaa.
