The new book on Criminal Procedure reflects the structure, content, and institutions of the new Code of Criminal Procedure (Law 4620/2019). The goal of this publication is to provide an overarching organization of the work, an understandable interpretative integration of the provisions of the new CCP, along with Law 4637/2019 as a "corrective" measure, which was deemed necessary, and to facilitate the smooth adaptation of recent developments in the field of science and case law.
Therefore, the work examines the procedural stages of criminal trials, defines them in their practical aspects, and enriches them with important positions from recent case law. Through a combined analytical presentation of theoretical perspectives and judicial choices, it offers solutions that are theoretically justified and practically applicable. Thus, it provides an interpretation that supports practice while being supported by it.
Special emphasis has also been placed on clarifying the interpretative understanding of alternative procedural actions (such as withdrawal, criminal settlement, and negotiated plea) that aim to promote the so-called "restorative justice." Like the eight previous editions, and the present, new and revised edition, it includes a user-friendly index of terms. The work is intended both for students of criminal procedure and for practitioners in the field: judges and lawyers.
