Before Blacksad, what? Blacksad Stories – Weekly is a noir story about the roots of John Blacksad's beloved friend and collaborator, showing how the young Dustin becomes the reporter Weekly in New York during the ’40s and ’50s.
Dustin lives in New York with his grandmother, Hannah, in a tiny apartment. Doing various unpleasant jobs to make a living, he gradually realizes that journalism and photography are his passions – and so he begins to build the reputation that later makes him known as Weekly in the world of Blacksad.
At some point, his grandmother decides to visit Pastor Lubanski, a sheep leading a crusade against children's greatest enemy: comics! Meanwhile, Dustin manages to find a job at Proper Comics, run by Venables, the sworn enemy of Pastor Lubanski.
Despite the threat of censorship, Venables assigns him the production of a photograp.
