The release of "Steel Wheels" in 1989 followed the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and coincided with their highly anticipated return to the live stage. The recording took place at Air Studios in Montserrat and at Olympic in London. The album reached third position in the UK and the United States. It includes classic tracks such as “Mixed Emotions,” which entered the Top 5 in the US, as well as “Rock And A Hard Place,” featuring a distinctive riff. The highly atmospheric “Almost Hear You Sigh” also charted, while Richards often brings back the ballad “Slipping Away” in concerts.
