Description

Through the political order, which was established by enforcing peace in the devastated field through religious wars, the state created the conditions for the development of the moral world. However, as individuals deprived of political power are liberated from the bonds of religion, they enter into a conflict with the state, which can morally emancipate them but at the same time strips them of all responsibility, relegating them to the private sphere. Citizens inevitably find themselves facing a state that, subjugating ethics to politics, perceives the political in a formal manner and makes its calculations without taking into account the specific potential inherent in the emancipation of its subjects. From now on, their goal will be their moral completion to such an extent that they truly understand – each for himself – what is good and what is bad. In this way, everyone becomes a judge who, enlightened, knows that they are authorized to judge anyone whose self-determination opposes their moral autonomy. Thus, the distinction between ethics and politics, which was made at some point by the state, now turns against it: the state itself is obliged to allow itself to be morally judged for its achievement of creating a space where anyone could survive.
