Palestine as a duty and as a compass.
Dozens of solidarity missions have approached Gaza and occupied Palestine over the past decades. What is it that attracts thousands of activists from around the world to this place on Earth? What makes them modern pilgrims, not to a religious site but to a struggle of over seventy years for liberation?
Is it a quest to be “white saviors,” or is it a solidarity business as the dominant propaganda often suggests, now supported by right-wing preachers? Or perhaps solidarity with the Palestinian cause and their just struggle has become a springboard for the renewal of internationalist struggles?
Jacobins Greece, together with Tópos Publishing, has prepared this edition by gathering testimonies from solidarity movements with Palestine from 2003 to the present, the fight against genocide, the march to Gaza, and the Freedom Flotilla.
There is a common thread that links all these efforts. They see Palestine as a duty for all the peoples of the world, as an obligation to stand against Zionism, the occupying army, as well as all governments and international mechanisms that support the ongoing attack on Palestine, its land, and its people. At the same time, in a world sinking into the whirl of war, primarily caused by the same states turning against Gaza, the Palestinian cause becomes a compass for a modern internationalism, for a new anti-war uprising.
All testimonies and texts in this book express this deep respect for the cause of liberation and the belief that, above all, “Gaza frees us.”
