Aunt Charlotte was not always called Charlotte. Once, before she went to Paris and "her head was turned," as her father used to say, she was simply Aunt Kallirroi, her mother’s sister from Kozani. But as soon as she set foot in the City of Light and began studying the history of the Renaissance, she somehow seemed to be reborn herself, and from then on, she always introduced herself as Charlotte.
Aunt Charlotte had two loves in her life: fans and France. "Fans are not just a fashion accessory, ma chérie," she would say every time she visited her beloved niece, Myrto. "They have a language and speak, and you have to learn to listen to them, because they reveal many fascinating secrets." Myrto didn’t understand exactly what she meant at the time. Nor did she ever imagine that Aunt Charlotte would soon disappear mysteriously and that she would have to decipher the secrets of the fan to save her.
