Mixed feelings about a book that, while it has all the elements of a strong story, ultimately did not manage to keep me as engaged as I would have liked.
The story of Stathis, a child marked by his father’s suicide and who vows to bring justice, is interesting. His journey from trauma and loss to power, success, and parallel power could have led to a truly gripping narrative.
But that did not happen for me.
The book is easy to read, the writing is simple, and the plot moves along without much difficulty. Nevertheless, several times I felt myself losing interest. In fact, at some points I skipped through quite a few pages almost without reading them, and the paradox is that I did not feel I was missing anything from the story.
And that perhaps says a lot.
An easy-to-read book, with an interesting initial idea and quite a few twists, but one that struggled to keep my interest undiminished.
I would not say I regretted reading it. But neither would I say it will stay with me for long.
