This book deals with international terrorism in Greece from 1974 until the dismantling of "November 17" in 2002 and the impact of terrorist actions on the country's foreign relations.
The study of the phenomenon is conducted within the broader historical context of the Cold War and the early post-Cold War period, in connection with the changes that occur as a result of broader geopolitical developments, as well as internal factors that influence and shape the activities of terrorist groups.
Through a comparative approach with the developments in the field of terrorism in selected Western European countries, similarities and differences of the Greek case are highlighted.
Despite the existence of far-right terrorist organizations during the 1970s, emphasis is given beyond Arab/international terrorist organizations to far-left terrorist groups, as a large part of their actions are directed against targets of foreign – mainly American – interest.
In this context, continuities and breaks in Greek foreign policy during the period 1974-2002 are examined, as well as the changes in the terrorist phenomenon and its impact on relations mainly with the USA and other Western European countries.
Additionally, the attitudes of the political system and public opinion towards the phenomenon and developments in its combatting are outlined.
