Horses

An anonymous twenty-year-old narrator tells or perhaps confesses. In his isolated village, everything has an otherworldly stillness; the only thing that changes is time. At his family home, where he lives with his grandmother and emotionally dead mother, an atmosphere of mourning has prevailed since he was a child.

Fortunately, he has the "Horses," a group of young boys who fight boredom by racing through the provincial roads on their motorcycles. Luckily, he also has his best friend, the leader of the "Horses," the handsome, wealthy, and noble N. O. N., a passionate reader himself, gives him a book for his birthday that makes him see himself and life in a different light—on the day the world changed, September 11, 2001.

The relationship between the two boys is more complex than they are willing to admit… A novel about the blurred boundaries between truth and lies, about the confusion and tensions of youth, and the exploration of sexuality in the Greek countryside at the beginning of this century.
