Emma Wheeler is an ambitious screenwriter who loves romantic comedies and dreams of one day seeing one of her scripts on the big screen. However, caring for her sick father has forced her to put her dreams on hold.

Until she is offered the opportunity of a lifetime: to help the famous screenwriter and idol of hers, Charlie Gates, fix the script of his first romantic comedy. Leaving her sister by their father's side, Emma travels to Los Angeles full of expectations. Reality, however, will disappoint her.

Charlie Gates is grumpy, rude, and refuses to accept advice from an "unknown, failed screenwriter." The worst part? His script is an absolute disaster – but he has no intention of fixing it, as he believes love is nothing but a huge lie.

But Emma doesn’t intend to give up. She will stand up for herself and romantic comedies and find a way to convince him that these stories matter – even if she has to kiss him to achieve it!

But what happens when their kiss turns out to be... amazing? And what if real life is more exciting than the best-written script after all?
