Lafkadio, the lion who knew how to shoot

"But I won't put you in a cage," shouted the circus owner. "You will be my fierce and formidable marksman."

"Marksman, hunter, myself-er, hotter," said the young lion. "I am already a fierce and formidable marksman. I am the fiercest and most formidable marksman in the jungle!" And he aimed his gun at the man again.

"But you can make a lot of money and become the greatest marksman in the world and become famous and eat wonderful food and wear silk shirts and yellow shoes and smoke expensive cigars and go to nice parties and everyone will pat you on the back or scratch you behind the ears or whatever it is people do to lions, I don't know."

"Ears, cats, willow," said the young lion. "What would I want with all that?"

"Everyone wants these things," said the circus owner. "Come with me and you will become rich and famous and happy. You will become the greatest lion in the whole world."

"Well," said the young lion, "if I come, will you give me a marshmallow?"
