No ancient city has been more written about, both in terms of their history and geography, than Athens; yet their topology must still be considered uncertain, and many of its most prominent features remain shrouded in darkness. This is largely due to the fact that later interpretations have often been based on assumptions rather than precise firsthand observation. With this in mind, I present my own modest judgments below, not to persuade skeptics or extend lengthy arguments, but rather to focus on what I believe can be demonstrated with some degree of certainty.
