Colostrometer - Colostrum Quality Tester

The colostrometer is a simple device primarily used in livestock farms to assess the quality of colostrum. It determines the concentration of gamma globulin (IgG) in the colostrum by measuring its specific gravity, providing a quick indication of its nutritional and immunological value.

The color scale used facilitates the categorization of colostrum according to its quality:

• Green – high-quality colostrum.
• Yellow – medium-quality colostrum.
• Red – poor-quality colostrum.

The device consists of a glass pipette, a float with colored markings, a suction bubble, and a flexible tube, designed for manual use. Measurement is performed at a reference temperature of 20 °C for accurate and comparable results. It is recommended for daily use, immediately after milking, helping to manage colostrum and support the immunity of calves during the first hours of their life.
