The layer gauge features a metal casing and 20 strips of various thicknesses made from special stainless steel. The steel blades measure 10.2 x 99.8 mm. The thickness range varies from 0.05 to 1 mm.

Purpose / application: The layer gauge is used to measure the size of gaps/spaces between components. It is most commonly used to measure clearance when adjusting valves and vacuum in the spark plugs of internal combustion engines.
