Gassan Kanafani, in addition to being a political activist, intellectual, short story writer, and journalist, was also a playwright. None of the three works included in this edition of the Kallisistos series had been published in Arabic before his assassination in 1972.

In "The Door," the mythological framework becomes a vehicle to express the existential anguish of the uncompromising individual. Dignity and freedom prove to be preferable to mere survival.

"The Hat and the Prophet" once again brings to the forefront fundamental philosophical questions about life, proposing but also challenging traditional definitions of existence, prompting the audience to take a stand on the value of life and creation. Kanafani approaches the concepts of existence, intelligence, technique, and responsibility from perspectives that have not been thoroughly explored even today, in the era of artificial intelligence and advanced robotics.

"The Bridge to Eternity" again shifts the perspective from which we view life as coexistence with other people. To what extent is reason sufficient for connecting with others? Can faith and trust become evidence of a person's existence? What is considered an illusion?

Gassan Kanafani's theatrical works (1936-1972) remain the least known among his diverse oeuvre (novels, essays, short stories, studies, etc.) which established him as the most emblematic figure of Palestinian literature. These works highlight his modernist style and his deep influence from existentialism. Without ever compromising the fighting spirit that permeates his entire work, in theater, Kanafani offers the most contemplative dimension of his literary production.
