The comparison of the economies of two countries is an extremely difficult, if not impossible, process. It is particularly challenging for those who consider themselves professionals - academically - in the field of economics. The peculiarities of each country, as a living substrate that underpins and influences all social moments and thus the economy, are what make the difference and are difficult to recognize.
As a result, the generalized abstractions based on which macroeconomic and developmental figures are derived never manage to encompass the actual economic conditions of each country in their entirety. Aware of the aforementioned difficulties, this book attempts a descriptive approach, enriched by the necessary evaluative judgments that arise effortlessly from the provided factual material.
Specifically, it attempts a descriptive presentation of key macroeconomic figures and developmental indicators of the economies of Argentina and Greece, in order to make apparent the outcomes of the paths taken by the two countries since the moment the financial markets refused to refinance their public debt, leading Argentina to default, while Greece was forced to seek funding from the eurozone states with the obligation to follow the well-known fiscal adjustment program.
Through this "descriptive" approach, the macroeconomic and developmental differences between the two countries during the crisis become utterly clear, as well as the problems that arose based on the economic logic of the programs each one followed.
