Lou spends every summer at his 2,400-year-old grandfather Artistotle’s house. He looks forward to making new friends each year, and even gets to meet some of Grandpa’s old buddies. This year, Lou and the rest of the neighbourhood kids are getting excited about one of those buddies in particular: Pythagoras. Darco, for example, can’t wait to talk mathematics with him. Inaya wants to ask him about music and harmony. Theano is curious about his views on reincarnation and the afterlife. And Joy… well, Joy’s a bit of a know-it-all. “Hold on!” shouts Lou. “I don’t get it! Why does everyone have something to ask this guy? What’s so special about Pythagoras anyway?”
A comic for the as-yet-uninitiated, this introduction to the basic tenets of Pythagorean thought is seen through the widening eyes of an inquisitive group of preteens and their “constant companion,” namely, Ancient Greek teachings, either creatively translated from the original texts or interpreted expertly by contemporary scholars. At long last comes a comic that proves once and for all that philosophy, also known as the love of wisdom, is not just for a few snooty old grown-ups.
