Description

The student books, workbooks, and additional materials for school years 7 to 9 are currently in preparation.

What is new in P.A.U.L. D.?

The proven concept of P.A.U.L. D. has been continued and improved. This is particularly reflected in:

  • new materials, especially visual materials and new text selections, while retaining what proved effective;
  • task formats that – from simple to more complex – gradually build basic knowledge and address different types of learners in a differentiated way;
  • further internal differentiation. The tasks take into account the individual learning pace, motivation, and abilities of the students.

In this spirit, the new task format "Take Off! How you can continue working" has been introduced, which is repeatedly integrated into learning processes. Differentiation and practice materials are also included in the extensive final chapter "Practice, Review, and More..." (from grade 6). Review pages are also included at the end of all units when pedagogically appropriate. These pages, "Small Exercises for Learning Control" (including self-assessment and solutions), relate to previously acquired (basic) knowledge;

What remains?

As in the previous edition, the revised P.A.U.L. D. continues to be a reader and workbook for German lessons in secondary schools (and all-day schools). P.A.U.L. D. follows the principle of skill development, which is evident in the following areas:

  • Learning to learn
  • Learning, retention, and recall methods
  • The topic "Tests"
  • Management of (substantial) texts
  • Writing assignments
  • Presentation preparation
  • Drafting structural outlines
  • Opportunities for interdisciplinary learning
  • Promotion and support of individual learning processes and approaches
  • Text management...
  • Orientation towards types of texts and thematic axes
  • Preparation of texts through guiding questions that reflect the classroom learning process and thus facilitate preparation
  • Balance of analytical and productive tasks
  • Methodologically guided management of substantial texts
  • Promotion of reading techniques
  • ... and media
  • The book as a medium
  • Working with electronic media and the internet
  • Media criticism
  • Film analysis
  • Media production
  • Speech...
  • Oral narration and reports
  • Speech training
  • A theater unit in each volume – from play to analysis
  • Presentation of poems
  • ...
  • ... Writing...
  • Systematic design and writing of traditional types of essays
  • Revision techniques
  • Creative writing
  • ...
  • ... and correct spelling
  • An extensive methods section for learning spelling
  • Systematic development of selected spelling issues
  • Extensive material for individual practice
  • Reflection on language
  • A very systematic development of important grammatical phenomena in specially designated sections
  • Linking language teaching with other areas of German coursework
  • A high proportion of exercises also in these sections

This is also P.A.U.L. D.:

The content structure reflects the interconnection of topics, methods, and skills.

Each unit begins with an introductory text that provides an overview of educational objectives and shows ways to present what has been learned.

The tools give students advice on how to approach specific learning and working processes. The summaries, in which what has been acquired is systematically compiled, serve reinforcement and review. Some units contain specific proposals for projects oriented toward the perspective.
