Nikolaos Kouzanou's idea of the "coincidence of opposites" was born during his return journey from Constantinople as an "a divine illumination." Later, the Fall of Constantinople provided the opportunity to rearticulate his thoughts on unity through the work De pace fidei.
God, as the "supreme unity of opposites," allows us to see Kouzanou not merely as a spiritual figure of key importance to the course of European thought or as a bridge that, combining ancient and medieval ideas, paves the way for modern times, but as a spiritual stance that has yet to find its continuation. The portion of truth that Kouzanou reflects awaits its time.
