Good evening! I have had this particular drive for about a year. Because I saw comments like "it's not fast," I want to clarify something important: this drive is MECHANICAL, so it's normal that it's not as fast as an SSD. As for its reliability, many mention that it's a workhorse and I agree. Generally, I have had bad experiences with hard drives and this is one of the few cases that lived up to my expectations. I push my drives hard and have high demands, which ultimately is their job—to write and erase, and that's what they're made for. To be more clear and objective, I am attaching a screenshot and I want you to pay attention to the drive's fullness and then to the Write-Read speeds. In general, the "emptier" a mechanical drive is, the better it works in terms of Write-Read, and I mention this because when the drive was 50% full, it had about +20 to 30MB/s in Write-Read. In conclusion, I will say that the drive has been formatted once and the partitions changed from GPT to MBR, and that was due to a virus. I hope I helped those who are hesitant about buying this drive!

edit: 22/7/2025
After 5 years, it has not disappointed me at all. Always full and under extreme conditions (humidity, dust, power outages from the electricity provider, moving from PC to PC, etc.).

I bought it and while it was working fine at first, after one month it started slowing down until it completely broke. HDSentinel shows it has 3% life left. WD covers the shipping costs for replacement under warranty, resulting in a deduction of -40€.
P.S. I only used one HDD and as you can understand, it was defective. I'm not saying that every disk will be defective, but I have to mention my case.

The "de facto" mechanical hard drive. Western Digital Blue 1TB / 7200 rpm (I am referring only to the WD10EZEX). I own more than 20 of these in various PCs of mine, purchased successively from 2012 up to 2024. All are used as storage drives, usually x2 in RAID 1 in each PC. Very fast (for mechanical drives), silent, and without heating up. Of all these, 1 died, but without any files worth bothering about and out of warranty. Recommended, as a CMR drive it is reliable and fast, ideal even for long-term file storage. It loses 1 star due to the insane rise in its price (it always cost between 37 and 47 euros) following the wild price "party" that RAM memories started in 2026 and other components followed. As a result, those I bought, I bought.

    I bought it on 16/02/2022 for €32.79
it hasn't had any problems until today, I wanted to buy another one now but the prices have gone crazy so I won't get another one
    I have a photo where I measured read/write a few days ago
update: I also installed my second drive which is much older, maybe 2 years older than the first one... with a measurement of 170MB/s... both were measured at the same time

The disk was used exclusively as a backup drive, with minimal writes and relatively little use. Before even completing two years, it developed a serious physical problem: Windows detected dirty bits and scandisk always got stuck at the same point due to bad sectors. Fortunately, I managed to save my data before it was completely destroyed. Unfortunately, it did not prove reliable for long-term storage.

After 11 years of daily use—operating system, programs, and files—for the past 4 months, the arms of the read/write heads have started making a bit more noise during writing and reading. For its years, though, and after 6 formats, specifically recovery system Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, I think it served me just fine. It was the factory disk of my PC with pre-installed Windows 8.1 from 2014. For the past few months, the heads have been stalling a bit during reading, freezing for fractions of a second, but still 0 bad sectors, 0 raw sectors. Logically, at some point, only the heads will break from natural wear, but for me, it’s a workhorse in my opinion—someone else’s would have gone off at least five years ago!

The windows won't let me format it to use it because of what I understand is a device issue. I didn't test it when I got it and I had it sitting for a while, so when I noticed the problem it was too late to return it and get my money back.

In 3 years it broke down, and this happened with the last 2 years slowly dying. It was running alongside 10-year and 15-year-old drives that have absolutely no problems. (old WD blue, Toshiba, Seagate). Not worth it

The disk is not silent, I expected it to be quieter than an old Seagate 500GB (also 7200 rpm) that I had, but it is more powerful! At the same price, it has a 1TB SSD, I should have gone there.

This morning I received 6 pieces of this 1GB capacity disk. I want them for storage only. I put the first disk on and start copying files from another disk I already have. It copies for a few seconds and then the copying freezes, gradually freezing the entire PC. I try again and again, restart after restart, same thing. I remove my own disk and put in another one that I had. Same thing. I try every possible combination of disks and always the same, no matter which disk I copied files from, it would freeze after a few seconds.
I disconnect the disk and put in the 2nd one out of the 6 that I bought. Exactly the same.
I try the 3rd one, same thing.
I should note that I often connect storage disks to my computer and I have never had a problem. I can still copy files normally with my old disks.
The problem starts as soon as I connect one of these WD Blue disks. I will probably call on Monday to return all of them because they are useless and completely unreliable.

Ok, there's not much to say. The classic cheap WD, I use it quite often as a store, although I prefer Toshiba and Hitachi drives in terms of reliability. It has proven to be quite durable over time and that is important, as nowadays you only get an HDD for backup or an extra disk for "useless" files (movies, music, etc.), which means you want it to be in good condition for several years!

After 8 years of trouble-free use, I would trust this series of disks again.

However, these speeds are not suitable for 2023 anymore. For disks up to 2tb, I would go for an SSD, and for anything larger, I would choose a 7200 HDD with the largest possible cache.

For the old fans of WD, like myself, I have to tell you that WD is no longer what it used to be. Specifically, 2 Blue ones broke down on me within 5 months of purchase for the first one and 3 for the second one. WD has let us down in terms of reliability, especially with the Blue series. If you look at reviews for the HDD design, you will understand and you won't buy WD again until they change their approach.

I have been using it for PC backup for almost a year since I got it. Quiet compared to other hard drives and fast for an HDD. As for durability, we will see how it goes in an update I will make.

So far so good, I have had the drive for less than 1 year but I have no problems. I only use it for storage and not for games.

I will update again in a little while.

Purchased in 2018, 7 years of operation and it continues smoothly, without presenting me with the slightest problem. It paid for itself with 3 hard drives. For a mechanical hard drive, extremely reliable!

I got it to replace one of the drives in my NAS, which was an older model of the same series. The old one lasted 13 years. So far it works perfectly and I hope it lasts at least a decade.

Simply perfect for 1TB for games except for SSD required games like Sea of Thieves where you need about 10 minutes to get in.

The product is fine because I have bought it before, but this time it fell along with the recorder and stopped working. I didn't bother taking it to the store for warranty because it was my fault.

I have a 1tb 6 of 2 years, and everything is okay. Now I got the 2tb and as expected, with a test, it's not empty. You fool yourself, but with 30% on 64gb, I got these results and with temperatures of 30 max 31. Yesterday's purchase of 2tb is not audible, it's calm for now!

  • The "de facto" mechanical hard drive.

  • I bought it on 16/02/2022 for €32.79
it hasn't had any problems until today, I wanted to buy another one now but the prices have gone crazy so I won't get another one
    I have a photo where I measured read/write a few days ago
update: I also installed my second drive which is much older, maybe 2 years older than the first one... with a measurement of 170MB/s... both were measured at the same time
