Initially, the reappearance of black blues musicians was called the "blues revival," an event closely linked to the development of white blues, folk, and rock at exactly the same time. Songwriters like Son House, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Victoria Spivey, Big Joe Williams, Robert Nighthawk, Bukka White, and others are revealed not only in relation to their reemergence in the sixties but also regarding their influence on younger audiences across a wide range of popular music in Europe and America.

In Greece, blues was closely associated with rebetiko song – which was revived during the same period – and this peculiar relationship is also one of the book’s topics.
