In Japan, Kukicha is sometimes called yasumi-cha – “rest tea,” drunk in moments of calm relaxation, including the evening. The brewing method is simple but important – temperature and time must bring out its sweetness and exclude even a hint of bitterness.
Step-by-step instructions:
- Put 2 g Kukicha Shizuoka in a kyusu teapot or larger mug.
- Pour water at 75–78°C.
- Steep for 90 seconds – the leaves and stems gradually release their flavor.
- Pour the infusion slowly and gently.
- Second brewing: 30–40 seconds, third: 1 minute – the tea retains full flavor even after multiple infusions.
This tea is ideal for afternoon relaxation, creative work, or a peaceful evening moment.
