Shenlong, even as a young monk at the High River temple, was considered exceptional. What surprised his masters was the determination he showed to learn other stylistic techniques when exposed to them. His barbarity was combined with a ruthless intelligence that drove him to master every style of the temple. He was fully aware of the political power this gave him in the valley, but he was unprepared for what would follow.

As the dawn of a day broke, the sunlight illuminated a secluded temple on the valley wall, said to house the Dragon. Shenlong, the only one who could look into the shining light, found himself drawn to the ancient building. He entered alone and emerged the next dawn, more than just a man. He was covered from head to toe with tattoos and scales, the sunlight gleaming in his eyes. Wherever he stepped, the ground burned. A new era in the valley had begun; the Dragon had chosen a new host.

Although he does not appear so, Shenlong is believed to be over eighty years old. The Dragon does not allow its host to age, keeping him at his physical peak as long as it chooses to inhabit him. While this arrangement is never eternal, the Dragon’s hosts are known to have lived for several centuries. As long as the Dragon needs a host for its plans, Shenlong will be nearly immortal. With the Dragon now focusing its attention on Malifaux, its current host has much to do before becoming bored and discarded.
