Description

"Heal me!". How many times have we all whispered these words to God in our darkest moments? In every illness, in every mental pain, in every moment of weakness, our soul cries out for help. We often ask immediately – here and now – for our pain to disappear and for relief to come. But true healing does not always coincide with the pattern we have established within ourselves "to get well as I want or whenever I want". It is something deeper, mysterious, that already opens the path to eternity without us realizing it directly. God is the great Physician, not only of physical diseases but mainly of the invisible wounds: sin, resentment, loneliness, despair. Often these wounds are deeper and more serious than any physical illness, which is why when Divine Grace begins to touch them, the rest it grants is incomparable to any "human solution", because Christ begins gradually to dwell within the heart and to fix everything in His own way. Healing does not always come instantly, nor always as we ask for it. Many times God "delays", not because He does not hear us, but because in this journey of patience and trial He heals other, deeper layers of our soul. Saint Paisios said that when pain is surrendered to Christ, it becomes medicine that cleanses the heart, and that simple relief from the problem is different from the consolation from above that grants repentance, faith, and hope. True healing is not only "for the pain to pass", as we all roughly want when we go through a trial, but for another kind of relationship with the Lord to be born within us. In the pages of this book, Elder Sophronia takes us on a journey within ourselves. Into all that we feel and hesitate to say to God. Into all that we cover up with cheap excuses, deceiving ourselves. The Elder shows us how to begin a new true and genuine conversation with Him.
