Romed Safety IV Catheters with Injection Valve

The Romed Safety IV catheters feature wings and an injection valve. They are thin, opaque, and manufactured without pyrogens and latex, ensuring resistance to kinking. The automatic retraction technology offers painless catheter insertion.

The safety feature includes a cage with a metal clip to prevent needle reinsertion after it is removed from the catheter tube. It includes an integrated Luer lock connector and needle cover to avoid accidental injury. The Luer taper is 6% according to the international standard. The triple-beveled needle allows painless insertion, while the flashback chamber facilitates immediate visualization of venous return.

The wings are specially designed for easy grip and secure tightening, with an option for suture holes.

IV catheter insertion is indicated in the following cases:

  • Administration of intravenous therapy medications
  • Administration of intravenous fluids-electrolytes
  • Administration of parenteral nutrition
  • Blood and blood product transfusion
  • Administration of intravenous agents for diagnostic purposes (e.g., contrast media)

The veins selected for catheter placement are:

  • dorsal surface veins of the hand
  • forearm veins
  • foot veins

The nurse is responsible for:

  • selecting an appropriate vein
  • maintaining aseptic and antiseptic principles during catheter insertion and care
  • maintaining catheter patency
  • proper care of the catheter to prevent complications
  • managing complications

Basic principles in IV catheter insertion:

  • Selection of veins of the upper limb for catheter placement. If a catheter is placed in the lower limbs, it should be replaced with one in the upper limbs as soon as possible.
  • Selection of catheter size based on purpose, duration of use, and condition of the patient's venous network.
  • Daily assessment of the catheter insertion site.
