Driven by an obsession to create life from nothing, Victor Frankenstein assembles human parts to construct a human-like being, into which he brings life through electricity. But his clumsy creation fills him with horror, and so it, shattered by its creator's rejection, decides to destroy him.
Mary Shelley was inspired at the age of just 18 to write this legendary gothic tale, which would become the most famous horror novel of all time, and it remains a shocking exploration of the limits of human creativity and scientific ethics.
Mary Shelley was born in 1797 in London to parents who were famous radical writers of the time. In 1814, she met the then-unknown poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, and together they left for continental Europe. After Percy Shelley's death, Mary Shelley returned to London, where she worked as a professional writer until her death in 1851.
