Through imaginary characters, a story unfolds that ends with a plunge into the dark world of bullying. Inspired by the case of Vangelis Giakoumakis, which shocked Greece in 2015, this story, eleven years later, continues to surprise us with its relevance and power.
The protagonist is Stavros. An eighteen-year-old young man who leaves his family home to study. However, as he begins attending university, he quickly faces a harsh reality, as he becomes the target of a group of students who pay no heed to classes or professors.
Initially, he is approached by "friendly" peers, but they soon reveal their true selves. Their decency and bravery were only a "mask." The dust settles, and the bullying awakens maliciously. Starting cloaked and then taking the form of torment.
Stavros sinks into despair. His room becomes a space of hopelessness. The "beasts" remain unchecked, rumors that they have "connections" spread and grow their arrogance.
Stavros finds refuge in a humble church. There he meets Father Charalambos, who inspires compassion and humanity within him. He takes a breath. But the bullying does not stop. Until one day, he suddenly disappears without a trace. Police officer Periklis Filippou aggressively begins the investigation but quickly realizes he is facing only hardened walls. Until he gives up hope.
What ultimately happened to Stavros?
Journalist Alexandros Kalafatis, who had extensively covered the case in 2015, decided to turn his journalistic investigation into police fiction. Thus was born the book titled "The Monster Stares at You from the Desk."
