For the researcher engaged with issues of ancient musical aesthetics, the fundamental condition for experiencing the aesthetics of related phenomena is naturally missing: this is the auditory experience itself. Therefore, alongside scientific knowledge, courage, imagination, and the ability to penetrate to the very heart of the problem are needed to reconstruct a musical universe, language, and music that has been silenced forever.
These qualities were largely possessed by the Greek scholar of the 20th century, Thrasivoulos Georgiadis, who further maximized the advantage of his Greek identity and musical experiences as a Greek, as well as his profound sense and knowledge of the continuous spiritual and musical tradition, as it is perceived from ancient times through Byzantine and folk music.
