Cyprus is the most important of the issues facing the Cypriot people. Perhaps daily problems and fanaticism prevent a large portion of the population from realizing this, but the future and prospects for all the inhabitants of the island—Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Maronites, Armenians, and Latins—will be determined by how the Cyprus issue develops.
It will be decided whether the country and its people will enter a peaceful period that allows them to look to the future with optimism, or whether the period of instability will continue with the risk of further deterioration. In such a scenario, the possibility of sliding into a permanent division should not be excluded, which would serve as a starting point for new sufferings for the long-troubled island and its people.
Such a situation would not only affect our daily lives but would overturn them. No one will know what the future holds, even though predictions could be made. One thing is certain: our lives will enter a period of prolonged instability and will be threatened by numerous dangers.
Therefore, it is of great importance to seriously reflect on what preceded, where we stand, and what needs to be done to create conditions of safety and stability, which are the key to promising prospects for the entire Cypriot people.
