The Teltonika RUT981 router provides Wi‑Fi 4 wireless connectivity and supports 4G LTE Cat 4 networks, with download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps. It features two physical SIM slots and a built-in eSIM supporting up to 7 profiles, as well as automatic SIM switching and failover policies.

The four Ethernet ports include three LAN ports and one configurable WAN port. It supports WAN failover and load balancing, and can use 3G or 2G networks if 4G LTE is unavailable. Its body is made of aluminum with plastic panels.
