Description

Packaging: 50 g (or 500 g & 1 kg) containing the fruits of the plant.

Other Names: Dogwood

Historical Data and Plant Morphology: Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) is a shrub or tree found in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas. It has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, especially for supporting the cardiovascular system.

In Greek and European folk medicine, hawthorn fruits are considered tonics and strengthening agents for the heart and blood circulation. Hawthorn thrives in Greece and is a key ingredient in the preparation of infusions and tinctures aimed at maintaining circulatory system health.

  • Support of the cardiovascular system: Hawthorn acts as a cardiotonic, helping to relax and dilate the arteries.
  • Regulation of blood pressure: It helps reduce hypertension and stabilize hypotension.
  • Antioxidant action: It protects cells from oxidation through its rich content of antioxidants, such as vitamin C.
  • Relaxing effect: Used to combat anxiety and insomnia.
  • Facilitation of digestion and support of the urinary system: Relieves digestive issues and helps dissolve stones in the kidneys and bladder.

Usage: Infusion: 1 tablespoon of crushed hawthorn fruits is placed in a container where 1 glass of water is added, the mixture is boiled for 5 – 10 minutes, then strained and drunk. It is recommended to add the fruits to the water at the moment it begins to boil and to keep the boiling slow at low heat, as this preserves vitamin C.

Origin: Greece, Imathia Region (harvested from Pieria Mountains).

Storage: In a dark and cool place (5°C – 15°C).
