Historical data and plant morphology: Horsetail is one of the oldest plants on earth, existing for 390 million years. Its botanical name comes from “equus” (horse) and “sacta” (hair), as its stems are hard like horsehair. It is used for cleaning tinware and has therapeutic properties due to its high content of silicic acid, important for the formation of bones, teeth, nails, and skin.
