Other Names: Ladybird, Paschalouda, Panagitsa, Heranthes, Drakaki.

Historical Records and Plant Morphology: Heranthes has been used for therapeutic purposes since antiquity. Pliny the Elder (23-79 AD) mentions it as useful for paralysis, rheumatism, and gout. In Europe, the herb was used in folk medicine as an antispasmodic, for cramps, paralysis, and rheumatic pains. The leaves and flowers were eaten in salads or soups.

Properties: Used for bronchitis, colds, and cough. Expectorant, diuretic, antispasmodic, and analgesic. Externally, it has anti-bruising properties. Acts against arthritis and rheumatism. Relaxing and calming, facilitates restful sleep. Relieves stress and nervous over-excitation. Combats nervous headaches. Beneficial for skin diseases, sunburns, and skin spots. Strengthens the heart and nervous system.

Usage: Preparation: 1 teaspoon of crushed primrose (or a small pinch of uncrushed) is placed in a container where 1 glass of water is added. The content is boiled for 5–10 minutes, then strained and drunk. Ideal also for vegetarians and vegans.

Origin: Greece, Imathia Prefecture.
