Historical Data and Plant Morphology: Rue (Ruta graveolens) is a perennial plant with small yellow-green flowers and a distinctive strong scent. It has been used since ancient times for therapeutic purposes. Ancient Greeks and Romans considered it protective against magic. Known for its bitter taste and its properties as a menstruation regulator and antispasmodic herb.

• Antispasmodic: Soothes muscle spasms, especially in cases of intestinal colic or severe cough.
• Antitussive: Reduces intense and persistent coughing.
• Menstruation regulator: Regulates the menstrual cycle and stimulates menstruation.

Usage: 1 tablespoon of ground rue (or a pinch of unground) is steeped with 1 glass of boiling water in a covered container. It is left for 10-15 minutes and strained before use. Ideal for both vegetarians and vegans.

Origin: Greece, Imathia Prefecture (cultivated).

Storage: In a dark and cool place (5°C – 15°C).

Side Effects: Continuous use for more than 3 days may affect the central nervous system, causing fainting, poisoning, and diarrhea. Use is strictly prohibited during pregnancy as it can cause uterine contractions and miscarriage.
