Ascolto e parlo 1 is aimed at teenagers, young adults, and adult learners of the Italian language, at levels A1–A2, with different language backgrounds, according to the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It is ideal for those who wish to develop listening comprehension and spoken production skills or prepare for certification exams (CELI, CILS, PLIDA, etc.).

The book offers a series of educational listening activities, inspired by real-life situations, aimed at exposing students to authentic language use across various communication contexts. The audio texts contribute to assessing and enhancing listening comprehension and provide essential stimuli for spontaneous and natural expression, gradually leading to the development of speaking skills.

The book includes 20 thematic units, 10 for each level, each with an introductory page. It can be used as a supplement to an Italian as a foreign language textbook or independently, even for self-study, thanks to the solutions included in the appendix. Each unit includes: audio texts of various types, with interesting and easily understandable themes, comprehension and language analysis exercises, fun activities focusing on spoken language forms, a variety of listening and speaking activities, specialized vocabulary, images, and engaging, motivating graphics.
