Description

Description

This edition is dedicated to the communist hero Napoleon Soukatzidis, one of the 200 communists executed on May 1, 1944, in Kaisariani. For the first time, letters of Napoleon Soukatzidis are published, while it is also based on the memories of Chara Lioudaki-Kypraiou, his comrade in the years before his execution, which are also published for the first time. These memories show how thousands of ordinary people, students, workers, and pioneering laborers turned into "giants" of the class struggle. Not overnight, but through the ranks of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) with persistent work, ideological education, and pioneering action.

At the same time, through the personal perspective of comrade Chara, the collectivity, solidarity, and superiority of the communist way of life stand out, as well as love, mutual respect, and appreciation under conditions of occupation and illegal activity. Especially in the current period, where the capitalist system intensifies its efforts to cultivate reactionary models, lifestyles, and criteria among the youth, this edition offers a very vivid insight into what a revolutionary way of life means in everyday life.

The edition was created under the editorial supervision of the Ideological Committee of the Central Council of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) on the occasion of photographs that came to light from the execution of the 200 of Kaisariani. Before her death, Chara Lioudaki-Kypraiou had handed over to the KKE a rich collection of texts and notes, handwritten and typed, concerning how she experienced the entire period from 1936 to 1944, up to the execution of the 200 of Kaisariani. However, this material never took any final published form.

The Ideological Committee of the Central Council of KNE, in collaboration with Sygchroni Epohi and the Historical Archive of the Central Committee of the KKE, composed the existing material, following as closely as possible the many notes and observations of Chara Lioudaki-Kypraiou. At the same time, many excerpts and notes were added to provide the reader with some necessary historical knowledge to more easily follow the autobiographical events described.

Meanwhile, Appendix I presents various literary excerpts found in the notes of Chara Lioudaki-Kypraiou regarding the execution of the 200 of Kaisariani, which help vividly depict the events. Appendix II records the last words of the 200 of Kaisariani in the form of notes, oral testimonies, etc. The original material contained some of these notes, but it was deemed appropriate to enrich them based also on the new elements that came to light in 2026. The notes were enriched based on the publication of the Historical Archive of the Central Committee of the KKE titled 200 Immortals, which was released with Rizospastis on the weekend of April 25-26, 2026.
