The Takamine DSF48C Santa Fe is a handmade NEX Cutaway acoustic-electric guitar, built in Japan as part of the Pro Series / Santa Fe range. It combines a solid spruce top with solid Indian rosewood back and rosewood sides, delivering a balanced acoustic spectrum, a quick attack, and an extended dynamic range. It features internal scalloped X-bracing and a mahogany neck with a traditional dovetail joint. For stage and studio amplification, it is equipped with a Palathetic pickup and the CoolTube CTP-3 tube preamp, which operates a 12AU7 tube at low voltage. The Santa Fe series’ distinctive aesthetic is completed by an intricate rosette and fingerboard inlays inspired by Native American art of the southwestern United States.
Basic Features
NEX Wood Selection & Acoustic Geometry
The NEX body is an exclusive Takamine design, featuring the curves and proportions of a jumbo instrument in the compact dimensions of a dreadnought. This configuration provides balanced acoustic resonance without excessive bass buildup, delivering clear note separation ideal for vocal accompaniment. The solid spruce top offers high structural stiffness and direct energy transfer, maintaining clarity across a wide dynamic range. The solid Indian rosewood back, combined with rosewood sides, enhances the response at both ends of the frequency spectrum, producing tight bass and clear treble.
CoolTube CTP-3 Tube Preamp System & Palathetic Pickup
The electro-acoustic amplification is based on the advanced CoolTube CTP-3 preamp, the only built-in guitar circuit to use a 12AU7 dual-triode tube at low operating voltage (to prevent the wood from overheating). The Cool Tube rotary control lets you blend the direct signal with the tube’s warm, harmonically rich signal. The under-saddle pickup is Takamine’s patented Palathetic Pickup, which uses six independent, high-volume piezoelectric elements (one for each string), simultaneously capturing string vibrations and the top’s pulsating movement, with high resistance to acoustic feedback.
Pinless Bridge, Split Saddle & Ergonomic Design
The instrument is equipped with an ebony pinless bridge, which allows for quick string changes directly from the back without bridge pins, protecting the top from mechanical damage. The saddle is split into two independent bone sections (Split Bone Saddle), separating the B and E strings from the others to achieve precise intonation along the entire scale. The mahogany neck features an asymmetrical profile that follows the natural anatomy of the hand, while the fingerboard made of solid ebony (Ebony) ensures a smooth feel and high resistance to fret wear.
Santa Fe Series Decorative Elements & Hardware
The Santa Fe design draws inspiration from the folk art of Indigenous tribes of the southwestern United States. The rosette around the soundhole consists of dozens of individual laser-cut wood pieces, forming a traditional geometric mosaic. On the fingerboard, the position markers combine turquoise inlay and natural wood in a cross shape. Tuning stability is ensured by gold-plated, sealed Gold Die-Cast tuners with amber pearloid buttons, offering stability and a smooth tuning ratio.
