Protecting your dog from ticks is important as they are small arachnids that feed on the blood of animals and humans. Ticks can cause serious diseases such as:
- Babesiosis – one of the most serious diseases in dogs, which destroys red blood cells, causing severe anemia and jaundice.
- Anaplasmosis – a disease transmitted mainly by the common tick, which destroys white blood cells in dogs.
- Lyme disease – a bacterial infection that usually has a chronic course with periods of symptom flare-ups.
The presence of ticks increases in lawns and gardens, which is why it is very important to check your pet’s skin and coat after every walk, especially in spring.
